VCCS New Horizons 2010: Discover What's Next -
Early Implementer Award (EIA)

The VCCS New Horizons 2010: Discover What’s Next planning committee is pleased to announce the Early Implementer Award (EIA). This recognizes individuals or teams implementing an idea promoting the success of students that they first heard about at the New Horizons 2008 or 2009 conferences.

Examples

  • Implementing a technology idea learned from a TIE award winner or runner-up.
  • Changing your learning environment (be it f2f, hybrid, or online) based upon an idea presented at a New Horizons concurrent session.
  • Creating Podcasting learning objects for use in your classroom.

Please note: These specific examples do not represent the full-range of possible submissions.

Judging Criteria

Criteria will be rated on a scale from 1 to 5.
(1 = needs improvement; 2 = fair; 3 = good; 4 = very good; 5 = excellent)

  • Describing the use of the idea, tool, or concept in a learning environment.
  • Demonstrating the impact of the idea, tool or concept on the intended audience.

Eligibility

Individuals or teams of VCCS part- or full-time faculty, staff, and administrators will nominate their project. The entries will be judged by a committee of VCCS faculty and staff. Selected winners will be recognized at the luncheon and attendance at the conference is required. Some winners may be asked to present a short video that could be shown at the awards luncheon.

Submission

  • Self-nominations for individuals or teams for the 2010 Early Implementer Award will be accepted through the conference website until 1:00 p.m. January 15, 2010. Nominations must be for work done in the Virginia Community College System.
  • Two winners will be notified by February 1, 2010.  All nominees will be recognized at the awards luncheon and are required to register for and attend the conference.

1. What do the awardees get?

All nominees will be recognized at the awards luncheon and receive a certificate. The two winners will also receive an award.

2. What are the deadlines for submission?

The online nominations are due at the VCCS office by1:00 p.m. January 15, 2010.

3. How will my team communicate with the conference organizers?

Contact between presenters and VCCS will be through email. The VCCS will contact only the primary author who will be responsible for informing the rest of his/her team of any communications between the system office and the team regarding this project.

4. What if I can't remember the name of the presentation, the presenter, and the year?

You will be asked on the submission form the conference year from which you received your inspiration. Please refer to an old program for 2008 or 2009 or click on the agenda links above on the right margin. Optional: If you would like to acknowledge the presenter or session name a field is provided on the form.
